`Hall of Shame`-World Cup Fiasco!

ang21.jpgang11.jpgToday morning Indian cricket team has returned to home land. Friend who was at B`lore Airport to welcome his sister, said except Press Photographers no body was interested to see Dravid and Kumble.

Experts have said, we have heard , Media has wasted reams of paper in analysing the disastarous performance of Team India. Fans have pelted stones, burnt effigy etc.etc,. Lots of funny SMSs and Mails have been making rounds across India through Desktops and Mobiles.

Who will be the new coach? Who will be the new captain? Who are all in/out ? these are the questions in the air.

By the way If you people had seen the match between Australia and South Africa, I think there is lot to learn from that single match. Attitude, Aggressiveness, Killer Instincts are the three main attributes lacking in Indian squad. Bring these three and you will see tremendous change. But who (BCCI, Selection committee, coach, etc.) has got time for all these silly things?????

`Mungaru Malae` much needed rain for Kannada industry!

mungaru_male_21.jpgIs it too late to write about `Mungaru Malae`, that too when the media is overflowing with the stories of its making, success and its after effects? I don`t know .

But it is true , I decided to have a look at it only when there was a overflow of appreciation for it both in media and friends` circle. Even today I am surprised, that Ravi Belagere decided to devote his weekly`s front page to shower praises on Yogaraj Bhat (Director).

`Mungaru Male` in a nutshell, simple story, tight narration, slightly unexpected ending, good music, excellent cinemotography, great lyrics by Jayant and Yogaraj Bhat himself. Music and lyrics comparable to the standards set by `Amruthavarshini` (another great kannada hit).

Kannada audience wanted a break from the `machhu and katti ` stuff and were bored of the same faces, in that sense it was also a good timing by Yogaraj Bhat and team. Excellent performance by supporting cast and good show by Ganesh (glimpses of Rajesh Khanna here and there) and Sanjana Gandhi.

Thanks to Nagatihalli Chandrashekar for introducing a software engineer turned music director (Mano murthy) to kannada industry with his `America America`.

Coming to Economics, film has already made six times the money invested i.e. Return on capital is 6. And the audio sales has also brought in decent amount of money. Hope we will watch the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam version of this movie soon.

Bhagavat Gita of Kannada

Manku Timmana Kagga by D V Gundappa which is popularly known as the` Kannada da Bhagavat Gita` was only a good book and an often quoted one by many scholars and authors, for me.

I don`t know when did i get the idea of reading it? But TN Sitaram`s tele serials ,which contained many verse from this book in its script and dialogues, strengthned my resolve to read it some day.

And finally that day came and i bought a copy of the book in the month of Oct 2006 and the book had the commentry of Venkataramanan , a great scholar , and close associate of DVG. When i started i knew this was not a book to be finished in one or two sittigs. I read it slowly so that it sinks in and I understand it.

Now after having read it,I feel its really the Kannadada da Bhagavat Gita, from the mouth of Manku timma Guru.

Dr.DVG with the knowledge of various branches of Philosophy and well read man of ancient branches of knowledge such as Vedas, Upanishad, Gita, has explained the true spirit of these scriptures in a simple and lucid manner, which can easily be understood by comman man (like me).

Most important aspect that appeals to most of the readers is the way in which he has related all these noble concepts and its adaptability in every day life . (Venkataramanan`s effort in making it easier for readers can`t be ignored.)

Throught the book he stresses on the way in which one should react and behave while going through the ups and downs of life. He never advocates renunciation , but with his simple verses he professes the concept of `Sthithaprajnatva`, and by practicing it one can perfect the art of being in materialistic world without being affected by it. You can draw inspiration from this book to make most complicated management philosophies , look simple and practice it easily.
A must read book , which one should read and read again and again.

Swami and Myself : A tribute to R K NARAYAN

Swami and his Friends , was the first book ,other than relating to academics, that i read in the age of 10. I was in fifth standard when my mother gave me this book , which she had borrowed from her college library. The book was a kannada translation of Swami and his Friends by Sharada prasad . As we know sharada prasad is a very famous and noted personality . He was press secretary to former Prime minister mrs. Indira gandhi.

As a boy in fifth standard i could well identify myself with Swami and experience all his joys and griefs. At that age i was wonder stuck, because swami was thinking like me and reacting to circumstances in the same way in which i was doing. I read this book on and on almost more than 25 times. Every time i finish it , i would restart it again. That is why even today, almost one and half decades later, i remember characters like Mani, Rajam, Shankara, Ebinizer, Vedanayagam and many more.

During later years i read his books like Bachelor of Arts, English Teacher. Now in hindsight i can say that book like Swami and his Friends developed in me a desire to read more and more books , including that of R K NARAYAN.

I pay my sincere tribute to this writer who made very common look like so special.

Gandhigiri, RDB and Indian youth

After the success of Lagae raho Munnabhai, at box office Media, both electronic and print,is busy singing the return of Gandhigiri. These very favourable reviews  compelled me to watch the sequel to Munnabhai MBBS. After watching the brilliantly crafted movie, what I feel is, this is a good time pass movie which also gives you some food for thought. Coming back to `Return of Gandhigiri` I can`t say this film will restart an era of Gandhigiri. It is true, film has succeded in educating today`s youth , to whom the word Gandhi represented something  outdated, the Gandhian way of protest, life and its relevance in modern world.

But as I asked earlier will it restart a  movement called Gandhigiri? I think NO. Though the answer may seem little harsh , but I think so. Ask me why…?  For any major movement to flourish people should have firm belief in their culture, value system and should have  common goals. (By culture I am not referring to any particular religion, caste or creed) In today`s India we youth are a confused lot. We are neither rooted in our culture nor comfortable with whatever thrust upon us by west. We are neither trying to adopt the best of both worlds. Thats why i said , we are a confused lot. Sometimes growth, industrialisation, profits, money, greed, consumerism motivates us and sometimes we get attracted to ideas and movements such as Gandhigiri and films like Rang de Basanti impresses us.

What we lack today is the awareness skill and intelligence to blend the finer aspects of our tradition, history, culture, literature , with the skills ,attitudes, culture and competitiveness required for success in modern day world.

Thats why we end up imitating west and at the same time wearing designer Khadi and applauding the success of Lagae raho Munnabhai

Krrish and the IIMs, Lalu and The Harvard Business School.

By this time it is a well known fact that Krrish by Rakesh Roshan has earned three times the capital invested. Probably it is the first time an experiment in making cinema has made its place in the case studies of the elite IIMs. IS it an indication of the developments that is going to take place in Bollywood in the near future? can Bollywood take on Hollywood and produce equally superb and technically superior movies? Time only will answer that.
When it comes to case studies  our Lalu is not far behind , he has  gone a step ahead. His performance and turnaround of railway finances during his tenure has made it to the Harvard case studies. Three cheers to Rakesh Roshan and Lalu.

Why did monk sell his car?

the_monk_who_sold_his_ferrari1.jpgRobin sharma`s interesting book The Monk who sold his Ferari, is really an eye opener for all those who alwys depended on west for the stuffs like motivation, stop worrying, achievement etc.,

This is the westernised presentation of our Good old sayings of Upanishads. It seems YADH BHAVAM TADH BHAVATI is the one inspirational saying that has inspired Lawyer turned motivational speaker Robin sharma to pen this book. I don`t say this is a must read, but still a good book and u can profit from it.
